A Storm off the Normandy Coast, possibly ca. 1850, Oil on paper, laid down on canvas, 13 x 20 in. (33 x 50. 8 cm), Paintings, Eugene Isabey (French, Paris 1803?1886 Lagny), Isabey made plein-air sketches early in his career, but this dramatic scene, composed as if witnessed from the edge of the surf, was probably painted in his studio. Perhaps dating to the 1850s, it evokes the Romantic milieu of Isabey's formative years, when he was influenced by Gericault, Delacroix, and Bonington
