Nevoid melanoma, light micrograph. Nevoid melanoma is a rare subtype of melanoma that microscopically mimics and is often misdiagnosed as a benign nevus at low magnification. Clinically, it presents as a verrucous lesion or dome-shaped nodule with variable pigmentation. Microscopically, there are sheets or nests of small epithelioid melanocytes that resemble nevus cells infiltrating the dermis. There is mild cytologic atypia. A mitotic figure is present in the centre of the image.
