1910 Puck magazine cartoon showing injured animals and bullets lying on the jungle floor. It is titled, 'Say, honest, is he really gone?'. The cartoon criticizes Theodore Roosevelt's big game hunting pursuits. Roosevelt (1858-1919) was the 26th president of the United States and an avid hunter. After leaving the presidential office in 1909, Roosevelt led an expedition with the Smithsonian Institution to Africa. They hunted and collected over 11,000 animal specimens including skins and 4,000 small mammals.
