Perseverance rover on Mars surface, illustration. The rover, a part of NASA's Mars 2020 mission, will study the geology of Mars and search for signs of life. The rover carries seven instruments to conduct experiments on Mars. The SuperCam (top, centre) is a remote sensoring instrument that examines rocks and soil with a camera, laser and spectrometers. The mastcam-z takes images of the soil and atmosphere of Mars. PIXL, an X-ray fluorescence instrument, will analyse the fine-scale chemical variation in Martian rock and soil. SHERLOC (right) is a UV Raman laser spectrometer that will look at the minerals and organic compounds. MOXIE (left) is an experiment that will produce oxygen from carbon dioxide. MEDA are sensors that can provide measurements such as temperature, humidity and pressure. RIMFAX is a radar that can penetrate and see the subsurface geology. The Perseverance rover launched on 30 July 2020 and is scheduled to arrive on 18th February 2021.
