Epidural haematoma. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of a section through the head showing an accumulation of blood from internal bleeding (a haematoma, green, right). The bleeding is into the space between the dura mater (outer brain membrane) and the skull and so is known as an epidural haematoma. Surgery may be required to relieve the potentially fatal pressure on the brain caused by the bleeding.
