Manuscript illustration from the life of St Denis (died c258 AD), written by Yves, a monk at the Abbey of St Denis. The book depicts the torture and martyrdom of the saint by the Roman governor Fescenninus Sisinnius. The lower scene depicts people on the bridge over the River Seine. There is a goldsmith's shop, a blind man led by his dog, a beggar, and boats carrying a cargo of wood. From the collection of the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris. The artist is unknown.
