Ordovician?ilurian mass extinction, illustration. The Ordovician?ilurian extinction event, also known as the Late Ordovician mass extinction (LOME) around 443 million years ago, 85% of all species on Earth went extinct. The extinction was most likely a result of global cooling and reduced sea levels, which dramatically impacted many marine species. 70% of Trilobite genera went extinct between the Katian and Silurian.
