Twenty-four Japanese examples of branch piety for the Honors (series title), A man works with a scythe on land, while his mother offers a cup of tea under a tree. The title of this print refers to the ten-part historiography commissioned by emperor Montoku, written from 851 to 879. It is considered one of the Six National Historiographies of Japan. The performance refers to the story of Ono no Takamura (802-852) who refused to travel to China with a delegation because he could not take care of his parents. As a punishment, he was banned to the island of Oki, but was later forgiven for his demonstrated will to care for his parents. With two poems.
