Jane Walker Burleson (1888-1957) on horseback leading the Woman Suffrage Procession along Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC, USA, on 3rd March 1913. The Woman Suffrage Procession was the first suffragist parade in Washington DC. It took place the day before the inauguration of president Woodrow Wilson. The 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, which granted women the right to vote, was ratified in August 1920 after nearly a century of protest.
