Short-necked azhdarchid pterosaur, illustration. Azhdarchid pterosaurs usually have long necks, however a fossil found in Hateg Island deposits in modern day Romania, suggests that it comes from a small azhdarchid pterosaur with a neck 20-40 per cent shorter than expected. The flying reptile had a wingspan of approximately 3 metres and lived around 72-66 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous.
