Polarised light micrograph of a cross section of the stem of Stachys sylvatica, commonly known as hedge woundwort, which has a square profile. It has been widely used in herbalism and, as its name applies, was used to treat cuts and wounds. It was also considered to have sedative and antispasmodic properties.
