A neat hexagonal prismatic crystal of Aquamarine emerges from a flaky cluster of muscovite, a micaceous mineral. Aquamarine is a variety of beryl and is usually found in pegmatites, complex rock suites formed at great depth. Named after Latin for 'water of the sea', aquamarine is the blue to blue-green variety of beryl. Beryl also contains other semi-precious gem varieties, including Emerald, and some lesser known varieties such as morganite and heliodor.
