Scanning Dead Sea Scrolls, illustration. These scrolls, found in caves between 1947 and 1979 on the north-western shore of the Dead Sea, include some of the earliest surviving biblical documents. Scanning helps to decipher the text on the scrolls. The scrolls consist of leather bound with linen thread.
