Young ichthyosaur (Ichthyosaurus communis) fossil. Around 200 million years ago, this young ichthyosaur swam and hunted in the oceans covering what is now Britain. Mary Anning found its fossilised remains some years after her initial ichthyosaur discovery. The species had a streamlined body similar to that of a modern dolphin, and gave birth to live young.
