Louis Daguerre (1787-1851), French chemist and inventor of the photographic process named after him (daguerrotype). Daguerre's patent was acquired by the French government in 1839. This daguerrotype was taken by John Jabez Edwin Mayall in around 1860. Daguerre disliked having his own portrait taken.
