Charles Valentine Riley (1843-1895), British-US entomologist, at work. Riley pioneered biological pest control and authored over 2400 publications. In 1878, he was appointed to the post of entomologist to the US Department of Agriculture, but following a disagreement he resigned around a year later. He was reappointed in 1881 and remained in the role until 1894. This image is from the US Department of Agriculture collections relating to Riley's research.
