Autophage rocket, illustration. This type of rocket is largely built from the fuel (propellant) that powers it, and the rocket consumes itself (autophagy) as it ascends to orbit. This example burns a solid oxidiser fuel rod with an outer fuel layer. A vaporiser produces gases that ignite in the combustion chamber, producing flames and exhaust gases.
