Erratic left by ice-age Rhone Glacier near Solothurn, Switzerland. The block contains granite from the Mont Blanc area. It rests on a pedestal of limestone about 40 cm high. The pedestal formed because the erratic protects the underlying limestone bedrock from precipitation and, therefore, erosion.
