Matterhorn as seen from the east with glacier-polished, dark green serpentinite rocks in the foreground. Crossing these rocks is a more yellowish-green dyke of rodingite. Serpentinite is a metamorphic rock composed of Earth's mantle material exposed by plate spreading in the deeps sea.
