Treating nearly blocked femoral artery. Angiograms (blood vessel X-rays) of the leg of a 67-year-old man with an ultra-tight stenosis (narrowing, lower left) of part of the femoral artery in the lower part of his thigh. The artery has been highlighted using a contrast medium. The stenosis is of the superficial femoral artery at the femoro-popliteal junction. The condition required a treatment to widen the artery, known as endo-percutaneous angioplasty (EPA). The image at centre shows the artery after the insertion of a stent. The image at right shows the artery after the EPA procedure. Both images show improved blood supply.
