Albin's Hampstead eye butterfly (Junonia villida) illustration from from 'A History of British Butterflies' by the Rev. Francis Orpen Morris, published in London 1853. Only one specimen was ever recorded of this butterfly in England, captured at Hampstead, near London by Albin. It was first described and figured by James Petiver in his Papilionum Britanniae of 1717. However this species is actually a Indo-Australasian species, known as Meadow argus, and it is not known how it was accidentally recorded as a British species. Nevertheless the species was copied into many more entomology books.
