Dream of Charles X and July Revolution, 1830s satire. French satirical poet Auguste-Marseille Barthelemy published weekly satirical verses from 1831 to 1832 in his 'Nemesis' series. This one is titled 'Songe de Charles X' (Dream of Charles X). Charles X of France ruled France from 1824 to 1830, when he abdicated following the July Revolution. The dream figures show French revolutionary figures, death figures, and a banner referring to the divine right of kings to rule. This illustration is from an edition of Barthelemy's satires published in 1845, in Paris, France.
