An engraving depicting James Nasmyth's 20-inch refractor, the base of which was mounted on a railway turntable. James Nasmyth (1808-1890) a Scottish engineer, inventor, and astronomer. With the extra mirrors, the observer's eye could remain stationary. This style of mounting pioneered new engineering methods for mounting telescopes. Dated 19th century.
