An engraving depicting the 'Bruncor' acetylene gas plant for supplying light in large country houses or remote locations where town gas was not available. The Carbide lamp, or acetylene gas lamps, are simple lamps that produce and burn acetylene (C2H2) which is created by the reaction of calcium carbide (CaC2) with water. Dated 19th century.
