Hymn to Creation: Holy Spirit of God, 1894. In his portfolio of eight enigmatic colour lithographs, Hymn to Creation , Charles Dulac described canals, pools, forests, and storm-tossed trees in a highly personal, visual language. He concentrated on mood rather than on detail, taking the Symbolist liberty of idealizing nature without deforming it. Rather than capturing the fleeting effects of light or weather, as the Impressionists did, Dulac focused instead on momentary emotions. His landscape is a landscape of the mind.
