Italy; Tuscan Archipelago; island of Elba: view of part of the ancient manor house (16th/17th century) of winery Tenuta La Chiusa at Golfo di Portoferraio (Portoferraio Bay; gulf of Portoferraio). Tenuta La Chiusa is one of the biggest and most prestigous wineries on island of Elba. It dates back zo 16th century and the aristocratic family Foresi. It has two manor houses; the ancient one (16th/17th century); and the new manor house (18th/19th century). In 1814; Napoleon Bonaparte visited the Tenuta when arriving for his exile on Elba. His idea was to take it as his residence. But he decided for Portoferraio and Villa dei Mulini and later on to build Villa San Martino. Since 2003; ownership is in the hands of the Corradi family from Rome. Annually 80;00 bottles of wine are produced; including Aleatico; Aleatico passito; Grappa and olive oil. Most spectacular is the new botanical garden.
