'Sir T. More', (1478-1535), 1830. Sir Thomas More (1478-1535) English lawyer, social philosopher, author, statesman, and noted Renaissance humanist. Councillor to Henry VIII, and Lord High Chancellor from 1529-1532, he opposed the Protestant Reformation, was convicted of treason, executed and then became a saint and martyr.
