The Piazza d'Oro (Golden square) at Hadrian's Villa (Villa Adriana - Villa d'Hadrien)- Tivoli (Lazio; Italy) 2018The Piazza d'Oro is so called on account of the richness and amount of archaeological finds discovered. The building consists of a peristyle; that is an uncovered rectangular colonnaded court (61 x 51 m) with a long basin at the centre flanked by two hedges.- The villa Hadriana was constructed at Tibur (modern-day Tivoli) as a retreat from Rome for Roman Emperor Hadrian (117-138 AD) during the second and third decades of the 2nd century AD. This large Roman archaeological complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
