Mosaic dedicated to Mary Mater Ecclesiae; (鈥楳ary Mother of the Church'- Marie M猫re de l'Eglise) placed in Saint Peter's square at the Vatican.At the base of the mosaic; which shows the Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus; is the coat of arms of John Paul II; with the motto; 鈥楾otus Tuus' (Totally Yours - Tout 脿 Toi)On May 1981 John Paul II was shot in Saint Peter's square and; as himself said; his life was preserved thanks to Mary's protection. As a sign of gratitude; he wanted to put an image of Our lady in St Peter's square.The mosaic; inspired by the 鈥楳adonna della colonna' from the Constantinian basilica; was installed on december 7; 1981.
