Estonia; city of P鋜nu (German: Pernau): Art-Nouveau-Villa Ammende of 1905. Villa Ammende was built in 1905 by rich trader of German origin; Hermann Leopold Ammende (1855 - 1934). He wanted it as a wedding gift for his daughter Ellen. Architects were Sankt (Saint) Petersburg based Mieritz & Gerassimov. The Ammende buisness went bancrupt; in 1927 and the villa was auctioned to city of P鋜nu. In 1935; it opened again as a casino; but was closed by Soviet army; in 1940. Officers of German Wehrmacht used it again; during German occupation 1941 to 1944. After 1945; it served as a sanatorium. In 1995; it was sold into private hands; renovated and reopened as a luxury hotel; in 1999. Actrually; it is the most luxurious of only three still exsiting Art Nouveau (German: Jugendstil) hotels; wordlwide. in 2017; it gaiend the prestigious Haute Grandeur Award.
