The Expulsion of Heliodorusby Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio) (1483-1520)Room of Heliodorus - Raphael's Rooms(chambre d'Heliodore) The Expulsion of Heliodorus from which the room takes its name; illustrates the biblical episode of Heliodorus; Chacellor for King Seleucus of Syria; sent to steal the treasure from the Temple of Jerusalem. In answer to the prayer of the High Priest Onias; God sent a horseman and two youths to seize Heliodorus and expel him from the temple. The commissioning pontiff Julius II has himself shown as witnessing the scene (on the left) seated in the gestatorial chair; carried on the shoulders of the chair bearers.
