Battersea power station in the mid 1970s, shortly before Battersea A was closed (The B station then closed later in 1983), seen from the east side in Cringle Street. At one stage the station, powered by coal, was the third largest power plant in the UK, and provided for 20% of London's energy needs. The closures were partly in response to concerns about public health and pollution.
