'Charlotte Buff', (1933). Portrait of Charlotte Buff (1753-1828). The German poet Goethe fell in love with her but she rejected his advances. He partly based the character of Lotte in "The Sorrows of Young Werther" on her. She went on to marry Johann Christian Kestner and had 12 children with him. After a miniature of 1785. From "Gestalten Der Weltgeschichte", a book of cigarette-card portrait miniatures of figures in world history from the last four hundred years. [Germany, 1933]
