Gross-Basenach M I military airship, 1908, (1932). First military airship in the Gro?-Basenach series of five M-class German military semi-rigid airships constructed by balloonist Nikolaus Basenach and German balloonist and airship constructor Major Hans Georg Friedrich Gro? (1860-1924) of the Royal Prussian Airship Battalion, between 1907 and 1914. Capacity: 5000 cubic metres, length: 65.5 metres; diameter 11.1 metres, with two K?rting engines, each 75 horse power, built by the Luftschiffer-Bataillon in Berlin Tegel. On 21 September 1908 the M I set a flight endurance record of over 13 hours. Maximum speed: 47 kilometres per hour (29 mph). Eugene and Moritz Garb?ty, who were Jewish, were driven out of business by the Nazis in the late 1930s, and forced to sell their factory which lay empty for over 70 years.
