Messier 96 is a barred spiral galaxy around 31 million light-years away from Earth in the constellation of Leo (The Lion). It is of about the same mass and size as the Milky Way Galaxy and contains around 100 billion stars. The galaxy has a supermassive black hole in the centre, a bright inner disk containing old yellow stars and blue tinged loosely defined spiral arms containing clusters of young, hot stars. This picture was obtained with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope.
