Messier 68 is a ball of stars (globular cluster) spanning around 100 light-years and is found in the constellation Hydra (The Female Water Snake) located about 33,000 light-years from Earth. Charles Messier, the 18th century French astronomer, catalogued over 100 galaxies and clusters. Through the telescopes available at the time, comets, nebulae, globular clusters and galaxies appeared just as faint, diffuse blobs. This picture combines visible and infrared light, obtained with the Wide Field Camera of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope.
