Messier 107 is a ball of stars (globular cluster) found in the constellation of Ophiuchus (The Serpent Bearer) located about 20,000 light-years from Earth. The Canadian astronomer, Helen Sawyer Hogg, added Messier 107 to Charles Messier's astronomical catalogue in 1947. Charles Messier, the 18th century French astronomer, catalogued over 100 galaxies and clusters. Through the telescopes available at the time, comets, nebulae, globular clusters and galaxies appeared just as faint, diffuse blobs. This picture was obtained with the Wide Field Camera of NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope.
