French president Paul Doumer (1857-1932) was shot by Russian ?migr? Paul Gorguloff at a book fair at the H?tel Salomon de Rothschild in Paris. Author Claude Farr?re wrestled with Gorguloff until police arrived. Doumer died in hospital the following day, the only French president to die of a gunshot wound. Gorguloff was found guilty after the jury rejected the idea that he was insane, and was executed in Paris by guillotine. Front cover of "L'Illustr? du Petit Journal". [France, 15 May 1932]
