Apollo 11 star chart. The Apollo 11 mission achieved the first landing by humans on the Moon on 20 July 1969. This star chart was used by astronaut and Command Module Pilot, Michael Collins, during the mission. Coloured dots show the positions of the Sun, Moon, Earth and other planets. Star charts were an important piece of navigational equipment used by the astronauts during the Apollo missions, enabling them to fix their location at any given time. This chart was transferred to the National Air and Space Museum in 1970 as one of the items stored in the Apollo 11 Command Module at the time of recovery.
