Dorudon prehistoric whale ancestor, illustration. This marine mammal lived from 40 to 33 million years ago, during the Eocene. It lived in warm seas worldwide and reached lengths of around 5 metres. It forms part of the evolutionary tree that resulted in modern cetaceans (whales).
