'Trepanning A Recruit', c1791, (1930). A group of people outside a building with a sign reading 'Cumberland House D. Irwin from Carlisle'. The 'recruit' wears a smock and the borrowed hat of the standing man, and holds a tankard on his knee. The drummer taps the potential recruit on the head with one of his drum-sticks. From "The Connoisseur", Volume 86, edited by C. Reginald Grundy. [The Connoisseur Ltd, London, 1930]
