'Hus' transcript of Wycliffe's treatise', early 15th century, (1947). The English scholar and reformer John Wycliffe (1320s-1384) and his followers completed the first translation of the Bible into English. Czech theologian Jan Hus (c1369-1415) shared Wycliffe's ideas, and believed that religious services and texts should be in vernacular languages instead of Latin, which was understood by very few people. Hus was burned at the stake for heresy. From "History of Czechoslovakia in Outline" by J. V. Polisensky. [Sphinx Publishers Ltd, Prague, 1947]
