Quasi-mosaic crystal for UA9 research at CERN. This quasi-mosaic crystal was built at the Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute (PNPI) in Russia. It is designed for use by the UA9 collaboration at CERN, the European particle physics laboratory. The UA9 experiment is studying how tiny bent crystals could improve beam quality in particle accelerators like CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Photographed on 12 November 2018.
