Ankistrodesmus sp. (Greek ankistron, fishhook and Greek desmos, bond) green algae, culture material of the Culture Collection of Algae at the University of Cologne. Ankistrodesmus occurs as long, needle-shaped cells, either individual cells or aggregated to groups. As shown in this light micrograph, the cells are twisted around each other. Microscopic contrast method : Differential interference contrast. Magnification 580x when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
