'The Execution of Charles I. in Whitehall, 30th January 1649', c1930. Charles (1600-1649) was King of England, Scotland, and Ireland from 27 March 1625 until his execution by beheading in 1649. He was tried, convicted and executed for high treason outside the Banqueting House in Westminster, London. On the right is the Holbein Gate, entrance to the Palace of Whitehall.
