WW2 - Pope Pius XII visits the bomb-damaged Basilica of St Lawrence Outside the Walls (San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura) in Rome, Italy on 19th July 1943 - his very first trip outside the Vatican since 1940. Pius was accompanied by Cardinal Montini (later Pope Paul VI). The Pope distributed alms to victims families.
