Photograph: A member of the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) assists an amputee at the Kirkee artificial limb centre, 1945.The Artificial Limb Centre was established at Pune in May 1944, but moved to Kirkee in 1945 and then to Lahore in December 1946. The staff at the centre tried to meet the prosthetic needs of disabled Indian Army troops. After Indian Partition in 1947, the centre was re-established at Pune. One of 12 photographs of hospitals and rehabilitation centres, 1946 (c).One of 233 official photographs collected by Capt Roy Wiltshire in his capacity as Editor of the Indian Army Review.The photographs mostly concern the Indian Army, India and the Far East, 1943 (c)-1946.
