Union of South Africa historical pageant, a re-enactment of a meeting between President Hoffman (1807-1879) and the Basotho (Lesotho) King Moshesh (Moshoeshoe I, c1786-1870) in 1854, when Hoffman gave Moshesh a goodwill present of a keg of gunpowder. The pageant was held in October 1910 to celebrate the union of two former Boer republics and two former British colonies, thereby creating a South African nation state.
