The Greenbottle fly has a near-worldwide distribution, it's larvae are born from eggs laid in carrion on which they feed, passing through a series of developmental stages or instars. The timing of stages in this life cycle provide a means of determining the time of death of the host, making them an important species for forensic entomologists.
