Wounded and convalescent men making chairs and baskets in the workshop of the Fulham Road branch of the Lord Roberts Memorial Workshops, which aimed to teach new skills and find employment for ex-servicemen, some of whom had lost limbs during the First World War. Named after General Lord Roberts, there were eleven branches around the country where men made a variety of high quality products including toys and furniture.
